A memorial fund has been set up for David Kubiak, the fisherman who died in Morro Bay sometime overnight Monday.
Donations can be made to the David Kubiak Memorial Fund at any Rabobank branch to benefit Kubiak’s wife, Paige, who works at Cuesta College, and their children.
David Kubiak, a commercial fisherman from Los Osos, appeared to have fallen overboard sometime overnight, according to officials from the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department. His body was discovered about five miles off the coast of Cambria Tuesday at 10:40 a.m.
A “Celebration of Life for David” potluck is set for Friday, Nov. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Morro Bay Veterans and Memorial Building at 209 Surf St.

A devastating loss for all that knew David Kubiak. Our son Gunnar will truly miss him. A huge thank you for all the love and amazing words given to our son. Never will be the same visiting his loving stepmother Paige & Stepsister he adores at the home where his father's love once was. I'm thankful that our son spent great times with his dad. He helped him on the fishing boat lots in past few years. Gunnar may surprise all and follow through the fishing legacy held by the Larson & Kubiak family: as he learned much from one of the best. Gunnar & his brothers Jeremy & Joshua have many wonderful photos that include David's friends , crewmen & loving family they want to share. They are creating website for persons to gather photos that hold special memories. David was very dear to all 3 of my sons. We will all hold him in our hearts forever. Fair winds..calm seas..keep safe to all persons that provide us food from our oceans. God Bless

I have never met David, but this story moved me. I have known many fishermen over the years and their jobs are hard and pay little. This is truly a sad accident that will severely impact the family. I plan to donate and hope everyone who is able will spare a few dollars to help them out.
    My condolences to the family.

The recent local TV coverage made my eyes well with tears. Seeing & hearing Mr. Kubiak's friends & fellow fishermen speak of him...it was very touching. Thoughts & prayers go out to his wife, family & friends. He sounds like a hard-working family man--a true hero in my eyes.

CaVly perhaps because David was a truly good person who was doing everything right that a fisherman can do on his boat, working hard for his family at something he loved. His family is reading the blogs and I know for experience that the love shown does help ease a bit of the grief.
    So thank you.

For some reason, this tragedy hit me unlike all the other tragedies that have been in the news lately and I don't know why. God bless the family.
